Our aim is to challenge and empower young adults. We take your average 18-19 year old and transform them into passionate leaders, clear communicators, and powerful agents of change in their schools and communities. However this process doesn't take place overnight; in fact it takes 10 months.

Throughout the program year, we host a variety of world-class educational and training programs designed to forge our participants into capable leaders. Our training curriculum is designed to slowly shift the way our participants think: to go from thinking about me, to thinking about us. Our participants learn to adopt an altruistic world-view, an empowered mentality and a commitment to personal success and service.

Some of our funds also go to NextGen Trainings. These are a wide variety of short-term development workshops led by our staff and participants and offered to anyone. We understand that not everyone can take a full year off to participate in NextGen Academy, so we offer these programs in order to reach a larger audience in a shorter amount of time. These programs range from personalized leadership training to relationship enhancement and family connection. Check out this link for more details on NextGen Trainings.

The heart and backbone of NextGen Academy

Most of our staff are volunteer alumni, who after graduating the program, choose to give back what they gained to the next class of NextGen Academy participants. After going through a full year of life-changing education and personal growth, they aspire to recreating their empowering and transformative experience by volunteering full-time in a variety of roles related to their unique and individual passion. Volunteer staff roles may include coordinating the international service module, leading a training workshop, or serving as a team leader.

However, the program is also led by a highly-trained core group of staff who handle general program administration and participant training. Most of these core trainers have been working in the personal development field and with youth for over 25 years. Thousands of people have been positively affected by their commitment and service, and they bring world-class expertise to NextGen Academy. We provide a modest living stipend to our core staff as a show of our appreciation and also to enable them to work full-time for NextGen Academy.

Our international service projects are one of the most important aspects of our program, and vital to empowering our participants to think more altruistically about the world. These projects are designed, developed, and executed entirely by our participants; not only providing them with the humbling experience of traveling internationally, but also the empowering opportunity to make a lasting positive impact in the communities they work in.

For more detail on our commitment to international service, see our International Service page.

We consider NextGen Academy a family, and every family needs a home. In order to deliver the type of impact that our leadership training curriculum is capable of, NGA invests in a program center to host workshops, training exercises and provide all participants with living accommodations throughout the year. This section of our budget covers the cost of our program center, along with things like electricity, water, rent, gas, and other utilities.
